To explore the mediating role of career resilience between intolerance of uncertainty and nursing interns’ professional identity, highlighting the importance of these factors in nursing education.
Key Findings:
Intolerance of uncertainty was negatively correlated with professional identity (r = −0.26, p < 0.001) and with career resilience (r = −0.31, p < 0.001), indicating significant relationships.
Career resilience was positively correlated with professional identity (r = 0.48, p < 0.001), suggesting its importance in fostering professional identity.
Career resilience partially mediated the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and professional identity, accounting for 52.64% of the total effect, highlighting its role in mitigating negative impacts.
Interpretation:
Intolerance of uncertainty negatively impacts nursing interns’ professional identity, while career resilience serves as a partial mediator, suggesting that enhancing resilience could improve professional identity.
Limitations:
The study used a convenience sampling method, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to broader populations.
Data were collected from a single tertiary hospital, which may not represent the experiences of all nursing interns across different settings.
Conclusion:
Nursing educators should implement strategies to help nursing interns cope with uncertainty and strengthen their career resilience, thereby enhancing their professional identity.
