Overview

This study evaluated the durability of intraocular lenses (IOLs) after exposure to space conditions for approximately six months. Findings indicated that while many lenses showed no significant changes, some exhibited cracks, discoloration, and surface alterations.

As human spaceflight missions extend towards the Moon and Mars, understanding the performance of medical devices like intraocular lenses (IOLs) in space becomes critical. This study represents an initial exploration into the effects of space exposure on IOLs.
