Overview

This study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of two different protocols for intravesical hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate in women with recurrent urinary tract infections (r-UTIs). Both protocols significantly reduced UTI recurrence and improved urinary symptoms over 12 months, although no significant differences were observed between the two groups.

Recurrent urinary tract infections (r-UTIs) are prevalent among women and significantly impact their quality of life and healthcare resources. Traditional antibiotic prophylaxis has limitations, including the risk of antimicrobial resistance. Intravesical administration of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) like hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate offers a non-antibiotic alternative, yet optimal administration protocols remain undefined.
