To investigate lifestyle-related factors in patients with PsA and their association with disease activity measurements.
Approach:
Study Population: 938 patients newly diagnosed with PsA were included from the Dutch South West Psoriatic Arthritis (DEPAR) study, a multicenter prospective cohort study.
Ethical Approval: The study was approved by the Medical Ethics Committee of Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, and all participants provided written informed consent.
Disease Activity Measures: Disease activity was measured using DAPSA and PASDAS at baseline and follow-up assessments.
Lifestyle-related Factors: Factors such as BMI, waist circumference, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, sleep, and social impairment were collected at baseline.
Key Findings:
Unhealthy lifestyle-related factors were prevalent in patients with PsA.
Higher composite lifestyle risk score was associated with increased PsA disease activity.
Obesity and smoking were identified as main contributors to disease activity.
Interpretation:
Addressing lifestyle-related factors is encouraged to help improve PsA disease activity outcomes.
Limitations:
Epidemiologic studies on the association between lifestyle-related factors and PsA disease activity are limited.
A collective assessment of their combined effect has not been conducted before.
Conclusion:
Integrating lifestyle modifications into patient care is imperative for better disease activity control in PsA.
