A South Korean cohort study finds that patients who underwent rotator cuff repair (RCR) have a higher incidence of suicide than matched controls, particularly notable after one year post-surgery. Analyzing data from 2007 to 2018 involving nearly 4,000 patients, researchers observed that 13 suicides occurred among RCR patients compared to 4 in the control group during a mean follow-up of 5.75 years. This translates to a 3.19-fold higher hazard of suicide, which increased to 5.86-fold after the first year, highlighting complications related to pain and recovery dissatisfaction necessitating mental health evaluations during follow-up.
