A study led by Mary Beth Versaci examined the efficacy of the GeneXpert system for detecting oral HPV infections using salivary rinses, comparing it to conventional DNA extraction methods. Involving 67 high-risk participants, the study detected HPV type 16, revealing the GeneXpert system's sensitivity at 72.09%, specificity at 100%, and an overall concordance of 82.09% with real-time PCR. While indicating promise for decentralized screening, further validation in larger cohorts is necessary before clinical integration.
