Pagetoid reticulosis (Woringer–Kolopp disease) mimicking eczema: a case report with immunophenotypic analysis and literature review - Summary - MDSpire
To report a case of Pagetoid reticulosis (PR) misdiagnosed as eczema and to review existing literature on its clinical and immunophenotypic features, emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis.
Approach:
Case Report: A 53-year-old female with a 5-year history of a pruritic erythematous plaque on the right ankle was evaluated. Initial mismanagement as chronic eczema led to a diagnostic biopsy, which confirmed Pagetoid reticulosis.
Key Findings:
Pagetoid reticulosis is often misdiagnosed due to its non-specific clinical presentation.
Histopathological features include epidermotropic infiltration of atypical lymphocytes.
Immunophenotypic evaluation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, highlighting the variability in clinical presentation.
Interpretation:
Localized Woringer–Kolopp disease has variable clinical and immunophenotypic features, and timely diagnosis is essential for effective treatment.
Limitations:
The rarity of PR limits the amount of available evidence, impacting clinical understanding and management.
Conclusion:
Early biopsy and immunophenotypic evaluation are essential to avoid diagnostic delays and guide treatment.
An updated clinical practice guideline from the American Society for Radiation Oncology substantially expands and modernizes recommendations for the use of radiation therapy in pancreatic cancer.
