Do Parents Seek Help for Child Sleep Issues?

Share

A systematic review by Abigail J. Ford et al. analyzed sleep concerns in children aged zero to five and parental help-seeking behaviors. Covering 17 studies from 1991 to 2023, it revealed that 47% to 67% of parents sought sleep support, predominantly from informal sources like the internet. Factors influencing help-seeking included access, trust in professionals, and parental characteristics such as age and socioeconomic status. Barriers to formal care included appointment availability and perceived judgment, while self-reported data limited the study's generalizability.
