To describe a case of a proximal tibial physeal bar due to a neonatal infection and evaluate the surgical management approach.
Approach:
Case Description: A 24-month-old female with lower limb length discrepancy and varus knee deformity underwent surgical resection of a physeal bar at 26 months old.
Key Findings:
The patient had a significant physeal bar covering 33% of the physeal surface due to a neonatal infection, leading to limb length discrepancy and varus deformity.
Postoperative outcomes included restored range of knee motion and full symptom resolution.
Interpretation:
The integration of arthroscopy and intraoperative imaging during surgery demonstrated clinical value in the treatment of physeal bars.
Limitations:
The diagnosis of the infectious origin of the physeal bar remains presumptive due to lack of corroborative medical documentation regarding the neonatal infection.
Conclusion:
This case highlights the surgical intervention in a physeal bar condition that was previously thought to be irreversible.
