Upadacitinib in the treatment of a patient with the triad of atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, and alopecia areata: a case report and literature review
To present a case of a patient with severe atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, and alopecia areata treated with upadacitinib and to review existing literature on the shared JAK-STAT signaling pathway in these conditions.
Key Findings:
The patient showed marked improvement in atopic dermatitis with a SCORAD score reduction from 78.40 to 0.52.
Complete regrowth of eyebrows occurred within months, with a SALT score improvement from 38.40% to 0.00%.
Significant repigmentation of vitiligo lesions was observed at one-year follow-up.
Interpretation:
Limitations:
The rarity of the simultaneous occurrence of these conditions limits the generalizability of the findings.
Lack of systematic reports on the use of upadacitinib for this specific triad of conditions.
Recognizing sustained switches between the two diseases can prevent premature discontinuation of effective biologics and point toward Janus kinase inhibitors, a 148-patient cohort suggests.
