Attitudes and dilemmas facing fertility preservation decision-making by oncology patients from the perspective of healthcare professionals: a qualitative study
To explore the perspectives of healthcare professionals regarding fertility preservation (FP) for oncology patients, focusing on their cognitive experiences, practical dilemmas, and communication barriers.
Approach:
Participants: Healthcare professionals from oncology-related departments in three tertiary hospitals in Hunan Province were enrolled using purposive sampling.
Data Collection: Interviews were conducted based on a structured outline derived from literature and expert meetings, following the Ottawa Decision Support Framework.
Key Findings:
76% of infertile young cancer patients consider fertility a key factor in treatment decisions.
Only 34% of patients received fertility counseling before treatment.
63% of young female patients experience anxiety and depression related to fertility loss.
19% of oncology-related departments engage in FP multidisciplinary collaboration.
