Objective:

To evaluate the clinical impact of Impella 5+ in patients with acute myocardial infarction-related cardiogenic shock.

Approach:
  • Data Collection: Clinical data were collected from electronic medical records and the Alt-Shock registry, focusing on demographics, comorbidities, hemodynamic parameters, and outcomes such as survival, complications, and length of support.
Key Findings:
  • 79% overall survival during index hospitalization; 1 major bleeding complication reported (the only one); median length of support was 8 days, with 7% of patients supported for more than 30 days; 3 patients were bridged to durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and 2 received heart transplantation.
Interpretation:

Limitations:
  • Single-center study may limit generalizability.
  • Retrospective design may introduce selection bias.
Conclusion:

Impella 5+ shows potential as a therapeutic option in AMI-CS.
