Objective: To evaluate the psychological impact of pediatric movement disorders on caregivers and families.
Key Findings: Caregivers commonly experience chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and physical health strain. Supportive factors such as peer networks, multidisciplinary care, and psychological counseling help mitigate negative effects. The influence of sociocultural and religious contexts in the Gulf region affects caregiving experiences and coping patterns. Interpretation: The psychological burden experienced by families varies based on the duration, clinical complexity, and type of movement disorder.
Limitations: The study is a narrative review and may not encompass all relevant literature. Existing validated instruments do not specifically capture the psychological and social dimensions relevant to pediatric movement disorders. Conclusion: Future research will focus on systematic validation of the proposed family-centered questionnaire.
