Histopathological Findings in Sleeve Gastrectomy Specimens: Prevalence, Determinants, and Clinical Implications in a Large Brazilian Cohort
To evaluate histopathological findings in sleeve gastrectomy specimens, analyze associations with H. pylori and demographic factors, and assess their clinical relevance.
Approach:
Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study of patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy between 2014 and 2024 at two tertiary centers in Recife, Brazil.
Data Collection: Demographic variables and histopathological findings were extracted from medical records and pathology reports, respectively.
Statistical Analysis: Utilized SPSS, RStudio, and Excel for statistical analysis, assessing associations using chi-square tests and Poisson regression.
Key Findings:
The study population consisted of 1,475 patients after excluding 166 due to incomplete records.
Histopathological findings included mild gastritis, H. pylori infection, and other gastric lesions.
Associations between H. pylori and demographic variables were systematically evaluated.
Interpretation:
Limitations:
The study is retrospective and may have biases related to data collection.
Exclusion of patients with incomplete records may limit generalizability.
