Objective:

To investigate the effects of intravenous lidocaine infusion therapy (IVLT) on intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) during posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion (PSIF) in adolescents.

Approach:
  • Study Design: A prospective randomized controlled trial involving 44 adolescents aged 10–19 years undergoing PSIF.
  • Intervention: Participants in the IVLT group received a lidocaine bolus and infusion, while control participants received a placebo.

  • Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed using linear mixed-effects modeling.

  • No significant difference in reportable IONM events between IVLT (35%) and control (33%) groups.

Under controlled conditions, a standardized regime of IVLT did not impact IONM in adolescents undergoing PSIF for idiopathic scoliosis.
