Evaluation of Intraoperative Lidocaine Administration and Neurophysiological Monitoring in Adolescents Undergoing Surgery for Idiopathic Scoliosis: An Additional Analysis of a Prospective Study
To investigate the effects of intravenous lidocaine infusion therapy (IVLT) on intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) during posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion (PSIF) in adolescents.
Approach:
Study Design: A prospective randomized controlled trial involving 44 adolescents aged 10–19 years undergoing PSIF.
Intervention: Participants in the IVLT group received a lidocaine bolus and infusion, while control participants received a placebo.
Data Collection: Intraoperative data included neurophysiological measurements and reportable IONM events.
Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed using linear mixed-effects modeling.
Key Findings:
No significant difference in reportable IONM events between IVLT (35%) and control (33%) groups.
