Objective:

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of vamikibart, an IL-6 targeting molecule, in treating uveitic macular edema.

Approach:
    Key Findings:
    • Patients treated with vamikibart improved visual acuity by about 10 letters compared to 3-4 letters with sham.
    • Vamikibart reduced retinal anatomy by approximately 200 µm.
    • Both doses showed a good safety profile with low rates of intraocular inflammation, cataract, and intraocular pressure.
    Interpretation:

    Vamikibart demonstrates promising efficacy and safety in treating uveitic macular edema, with potential for longer-lasting effects due to IL-6 suppression.

    Limitations:
    • The 1 mg dose in SANDCAT did not reach statistical significance.
    • Full-year data is still pending for further evaluation.
    Conclusion:

    Vamikibart represents a new treatment option for uveitic macular edema, potentially offering a safer alternative to steroids with less injection burden.
