Objective:

To compare the short-term clinical efficacy and postoperative recovery rate between arthroscopic and open Broström-Gould surgery in patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI).

Approach:
    Key Findings:
    • No statistically significant differences in surgical time, AOFAS scores, Tegner activity scores, anterior drawer test, talar tilt, and total complication rates between the two techniques.
    • Arthroscopy group showed significantly better K-P scores, VAS scores, and time to return to sports.
    Interpretation:

    Limitations:
    • Limited certainty regarding findings due to potential biases and heterogeneity among included studies.
    Conclusion:

    Both surgical techniques are comparable.
