Objective:

To map publication trends, conceptual structure, thematic evolution, and collaboration networks of research on GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and psychiatric outcomes.

Approach:
  • Data Retrieval: Bibliographic records were retrieved from OpenAlex, Lens.org, and PubMed on 8 April 2026, using Boolean searches restricted to title and abstract fields.
  • Analysis Methods: Performance analysis, science mapping (keyword co-occurrence, collaboration networks), and thematic analysis were performed using the bibliometrix R package.
Key Findings:
  • Research output increased from fewer than 10 publications before 2004 to nearly 500 in 2025.
  • The corpus included 1,063 journals, 9,269 authors, and 85 countries, with an h-index of 101.
  • Depression emerged as a distinct research front only in 2022-2026, while obesity and diabetes mellitus occupied the basic themes quadrant.
Interpretation:

Depression research within the GLP-1 RA literature has developed internal coherence but remains peripheral to the dominant metabolic research front.

Limitations:
  • The study did not perform quantitative outcome synthesis, risk-of-bias assessment, or effect-size estimation.
  • No protocol was registered for this bibliometric analysis.
Conclusion:

Bridging the gap between metabolic and psychiatric research through large cardiometabolic trials with psychiatric co-primary endpoints is a key priority for future research.
