Objective:

To evaluate whether satisfying the 3 + 1 lymph node sampling criteria is associated with increased postoperative complications in patients undergoing surgical resection for NSCLC.

Key Findings:
  • Out of 28,439 patients, 66.6% satisfied the 3 + 1 lymph node sampling criteria.
  • Patients meeting the 3 + 1 criteria were more likely to receive preoperative pulmonary function tests and undergo robotic surgery.
  • No significant differences in postoperative complications were found between the two groups.
Interpretation:

Limitations:
  • The study is retrospective and may be subject to selection bias.
  • Data on certain variables, such as duration of operation and length of stay, were not included in the propensity match.
Conclusion:

Satisfying the 3 + 1 lymph node sampling criteria does not appear to increase postoperative complications in patients undergoing surgical resection for NSCLC.
