Attenuation value of non-contrast computed tomography for spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage: an important marker for the rapid identification of hematoma expansion
To investigate whether relative CT attenuation value can predict hematoma expansion (HE) in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH).
Approach:
Study Design: A retrospective analysis of patients with sICH treated between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2023, who underwent baseline and follow-up CT scans.
Data Analysis: Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to determine the critical threshold for HE prediction based on relative CT attenuation values.
Key Findings:
Sensitivity and specificity for predicting HE at ≤33.35 HU were 40.9% and 83.1%, respectively.
Interpretation:
Relative CT attenuation value of hematoma can independently predict HE in patients with sICH.
Limitations:
The study was retrospective and conducted at a single center.
Variability in CT scanner models and acquisition protocols may affect attenuation values.
Conclusion:
Relative CT attenuation value can serve as a predictive marker for hematoma expansion in sICH patients.
