Researchers from the Institute for Molecular Science and SOKENDAI have developed a novel time-frequency engineered coherent Raman spectroscopy method that allows for the direct detection of molecular layers just a few ångströms thick at metal interfaces, circumventing the limitations posed by substrate backgrounds. By timing the coherent Raman signal with femtosecond and picosecond pulses, they effectively suppress metal background noise while enabling in-depth studies of ultrathin molecular films. This technique has potential applications in various fields, including electrochemical reactions and organic electronic devices.
