Objective:
To compare virtual reality perimetry with Humphrey Visual Field testing in patients with ocular hypertension or glaucoma.
Key Findings:
- Mean deviation measurements were similar: -6.8 dB (HVF) vs -6.0 dB (VR).
- Pattern standard deviation values were comparable: 5.6 dB (HVF) vs 6.3 dB (VR).
- Testing duration was significantly shorter with VR perimetry (122 seconds) compared to HVF (253 seconds).
- A majority of patients (41 out of 48) preferred VR perimetry over HVF.
Interpretation:
Correlations between the two modalities were strong (0.82 for mean deviation, 0.85 for pattern standard deviation), indicating comparable performance.
Limitations:
- Retrospective design and modest sample size.
- Single-center setting may limit generalizability.
- Potential learning or fatigue effects due to testing order.
- Different luminance ranges and testing algorithms between devices.
Conclusion:
VR perimetry may serve as an effective adjunct in glaucoma management, especially where HVF access is limited.
