Objective:

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of crisaborole in treating trachyonychia in pediatric patients.

Approach:
  • Study Design: A retrospective case series conducted at Beijing Children's Hospital from April 2021 to September 2022 involving 13 children diagnosed with trachyonychia.
  • Treatment Protocol: Topical crisaborole was applied twice daily on nail plates and folds with nightly occlusion.
  • Outcome Assessment: Outcomes were evaluated at 6 and 12 weeks using Physician's Global Assessment (PGA) and Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI).
Key Findings:
  • At week 6, 82.1% of nails showed significant clinical improvement, with 43.2% achieving complete remission and 38.9% achieving partial remission.
  • At week 12, 48.5% of nails maintained complete remission.
  • PGA and FDLQI scores significantly decreased (P < 0.05).
  • No severe adverse events were reported.
Interpretation:

Limitations:
  • Small sample size of 13 patients.
  • Retrospective design may limit the generalizability of the findings.
