User acceptance and continuance intention of the BeSt age mHealth application for physical activity promotion and fall prevention in nursing homes
To examine the acceptance of the BeSt Age App, a mobile application for fall prevention in nursing homes, and analyze how perceived usefulness and usability influence users' intention to continue using the app.
Approach:
Key Findings:
Residents showed moderate cognitive impairment and low digital competence.
Employees rated usability positively (87.1 ± 15 points) and reported high continuance intention (4.03 ± 1.22 on a scale of 1-5).
Employee adherence was 85.6%, while resident adherence was 75.1%.
Perceived usefulness (β = 0.39, p = 0.020) and usability (β = 0.46, p = 0.047) significantly predicted continuance intention.
Interpretation:
Nursing home employees evaluated the BeSt Age App positively, particularly regarding usability, which, along with perceived usefulness, predicted their intention to continue using the app.
Limitations:
The study primarily focused on employee perspectives, which may overlook resident experiences.
The digital divide between employees and residents may impact the implementation of technology.
Conclusion:
The study suggests examining longer-term adoption patterns and the relationship between sustained app usage and clinical outcomes in nursing home settings.
