Objective:

To examine racial, ethnic, and linguistic representation among patients included in literature referenced by Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) addressing hip fractures in older adults and to evaluate the use of linguistically and culturally adapted Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).

Approach:
  • Article identification and inclusion: Eligibility assessment was performed for publications cited on the AAOS CPGs website related to hip fractures. Data extraction included variables such as race, ethnicity, language, and PROMs used.
Key Findings:
  • Race/ethnicity data were reported in 12 of 196 included articles (6.12%), with 75.0% enrolling predominantly White/Caucasian participants.
  • Language data were reported in 9 of 196 articles (4.59%), with English being the most commonly documented language.
Limitations:
  • Limited reporting of race and ethnicity in the studies analyzed.
  • Low representation of non-English languages and limited language proficiency data.
