Objective:

To assess whether automated PROMs collection could be integrated into routine inguinal hernia care through 2 years after surgery, with the response rate at each follow-up time point as the primary outcome.

Approach:
  • Design and setting: Retrospective analysis of a prospective PROMs database at a high-volume hernia clinic, covering January 18, 2023, to August 25, 2025.
  • Participants: Eligible patients were adults undergoing elective TEP or Lichtenstein repair. Emergency procedures, other repair types, and cases with a missed preoperative or postoperative invitation were excluded.
  • PROMs system: Patients received secure automated email invitations to complete concise questionnaires addressing pain, return to work and exercise, recurrence, and satisfaction. Responses were synchronized with the electronic medical record.
Interpretation:

The provided article context describes the study rationale and methods but does not report response rates or other study results.

Limitations:
  • The study was conducted at a single high-volume hernia clinic.
  • The analysis excluded emergency repairs, procedures other than TEP or Lichtenstein repair, and cases in which a preoperative or postoperative invitation was missed.
