Prevalence and factors associated with bullying based on the Indonesian version of revised Olweus/Bully Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ-R) among senior high school students
To determine the prevalence and associated factors of bullying victimisation among senior high school students in Indonesia using the Indonesian version of the OBVQ-R.
Approach:
Study Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two public and four private senior high schools, utilizing an online questionnaire including the OBVQ-R.
Participants: A total of 1875 high school students were included, with 210 excluded due to specific criteria.
Data Collection: Participants completed the OBVQ-R online, with additional questions related to study variables.
Key Findings:
The prevalence of bullying among high school students was 10.7%, with 148 identified as victims, 29 as perpetrators, and 2 as both.
Poor relationships with primary caregivers (aOR 2.2) and lack of close friends (aOR 2.4) were significant risk factors for involvement in bullying.
Interpretation:
The study reports the prevalence of bullying in Indonesian high schools and identifies social factors contributing to it.
Limitations:
Exclusion of students on routine medication or with physical disabilities may limit generalizability.
The study's cross-sectional design does not allow for causal inferences.
Conclusion:
Family dynamics and social relationships are associated with involvement in bullying among high school students.
