A retrospective study on post-traumatic stress disorder in fathers of preterm infants in the NICU and the effectiveness of kangaroo care intervention
To investigate factors associated with screen-positive PTSD symptoms in fathers of preterm infants in the NICU and evaluate the effects of kangaroo care measures.
Key Findings:
Significant differences in illness uncertainty, social support, depressed mood, infant birth weight, paternal occupation, and education level were found.
Logistic regression identified these factors as independent risk factors for PTSD symptoms.
The nomogram prediction model showed high accuracy (AUC = 0.872).
Post-intervention, rates of screen-positive PTSD symptoms, illness uncertainty, social support, and depressed mood improved significantly.
Interpretation:
Limitations:
The study is retrospective and quasi-experimental, limiting causal inferences.
Further controlled studies are needed to confirm the findings.
Conclusion:
The findings indicate associations between several factors and PTSD symptoms in fathers of preterm infants.
Guidance addresses office readiness, recommended equipment and medications, and team communication processes for infrequent but high-acuity emergencies.
