Objective:

To determine the odds of cardiometabolic-related diagnoses in youth with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) compared to matched controls using a large multisite database.

Key Findings:
  • Youth with CAH had higher odds of overweight/obesity (OR 3.63), hypertension (OR 3.07), dysglycemia (OR 1.95), dyslipidemia (OR 2.28), and liver dysfunction (OR 2.30) compared to controls.
  • Individuals with classic CAH had even higher odds of hypertension (OR 8.22) and liver dysfunction (OR 2.11).
Interpretation:

Youth with CAH are at increased risk for various cardiometabolic health issues, particularly those with classic CAH.

Limitations:
  • The study is observational and may not establish causation.
  • Data is limited to electronic health records, which may miss some clinical nuances.
Conclusion:

The findings highlight the need for increased monitoring and intervention for cardiometabolic health in youth with CAH.
