Objective:

To report a rare case of anterior persistent fetal vasculature (PFV) associated with lenticular coloboma.

Approach:
  • Case Presentation: A 23-year-old female with poor vision since childhood underwent a detailed ocular examination, including AS-OCT, which revealed a localized central posterior subcapsular opacity in the lens, a fibrous stalk on the central posterior capsule extending to the vitreous cavity, elongated ciliary processes on the nasal area, and a crescent-shaped lens defect with a zonular defect observed at the nasal equatorial region.
Key Findings:
  • The patient exhibited a localized central posterior subcapsular opacity, a fibrous stalk, elongated ciliary processes, and a zonular defect, all indicative of anterior PFV and lens coloboma as visualized by AS-OCT.
Interpretation:

This case illustrates the diagnostic capabilities of AS-OCT in identifying anterior PFV and the complexities involved in managing such cases.

Limitations:
  • The study is based on a single case report, limiting generalizability.
  • Long-term outcomes of the surgical intervention were not discussed.
Conclusion:

This case illustrates the rare coexistence of PFV and lens coloboma, emphasizing the role of advanced imaging techniques in diagnosis.
