A 6-Month Prospective, Open-Label, Randomized Study Showing Increased Hair Growth Rate in Women Using Multi-Targeting Hair Growth Nutraceuticals
To quantify the effects of various oral hair growth nutraceuticals (HGNs) on linear hair growth rate (LHGR) and other hair follicle measurements in women with thinning hair.
Approach:
Study Design: A 6-month, open-label, prospective study evaluating four commercially available HGNs in women aged 18–70 with thinning hair.
Participants: Women aged 18–70, divided into four groups based on age and dietary habits, including those in postpartum, peri-, post-, and menopausal stages.
Intervention: Participants used one of four targeted HGNs: Nutrafol® Women HGN Original Formula, Advanced Formula, Women’s Balance, and Postpartum.
Measurements: Quantitative evaluation of LHGR, hair growth stage assessment, hair counts, and scalp coverage.
Key Findings:
Participants using multi-targeting HGNs showed significant increases in LHGR.
Gains were observed in anagen hairs, total/terminal counts, and scalp coverage.
The multi-target approach of HGNs effectively enhances follicle growth dynamics.
Interpretation:
Limitations:
The study was open-label and lacked a placebo control group.
Results may not be generalizable to all populations due to specific participant demographics.
A randomized clinical trial found that a team-based connected health model achieved equivalent improvements in atopic dermatitis severity and symptoms compared with conventional in-person care over 12 months.
