Objective:

To evaluate plasma activity of selected matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in individuals with morbid obesity and the impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on MMPs’ activity.

Approach:
    Key Findings:
    • Increased activities of MMPs were observed in morbidly obese women without metabolic syndrome before surgery.
    • Higher activities of MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-10, and MMP-12 were found in morbidly obese women with metabolic syndrome compared to lean controls.
    • Post-surgery, only some plasma MMP activities partially normalized in both obese groups.
    • MMPs activity did not differ significantly between obese individuals with and without metabolic syndrome.
    Interpretation:

Remove unsupported conclusions and focus on the findings as presented in the source.

    Limitations:
    • The study was limited to a small sample size of 63 women.
    • Long-term effects beyond 12 months were not assessed.
    Conclusion:

Revise to state only that further long-term studies are needed without additional implications.
