The NORCCAP trial, conducted in Norway, demonstrated that sigmoidoscopy screening significantly reduces the incidence of colorectal cancer and related mortality, particularly in men. Over 23 years, 100,000 individuals aged 50 to 64 were randomized into screening and no-screening groups. Men showed a 1.7 percentage point decrease in colorectal cancer risk and 0.8 percentage points reduction in related mortality, while the effects for women were less pronounced. These results suggest fewer screenings may be necessary in typical age ranges.
