Objective: To explore whether GLP-1 receptor agonists can influence behavioral pathways linked to violence.
Approach: Study Design: Cross-sectional analysis using data from a nationally representative 2025 survey, comparing 821 adults who had used GLP-1 medications.Participant Comparison: 597 current users of GLP-1 medications were compared with 224 former users.Key Findings: Impulsivity and alcohol use were strongly associated with self-reported violent behavior. The association between impulsivity and violent behavior was attenuated by about 62% among current GLP-1 users. Alcohol-related findings were less consistent but pointed in a similar direction. GLP-1 use was not independently associated with lower violence rates. Interpretation: GLP-1 medications may influence how risk factors translate into violent behavior.
Limitations: The study's cross-sectional design cannot establish causality. Conclusion: The findings suggest an unexpected link between GLP-1 medications and behavioral pathways related to violence.
