To systematically map paraptosis-related publications and provide an evidence-based reference for future research.
Approach:
Data Retrieval: Publications were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection, PubMed, and Scopus using 'paraptosis' as the core search term.
Analysis Tools: VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R, and Excel were used for analyzing publication trends, collaboration networks, journal distribution, co-citation relationships, keyword co-occurrence, clustering, and thematic evolution.
Key Findings:
401 publications were included, showing an overall fluctuating upward trend in annual output, particularly from 2020 to 2025.
China was the most productive country (155 publications), and Ajou University was the leading institution (19 publications).
Choi Kyeong Sook was identified as a core author, while Sperandio S was the most frequently co-cited author.
Research hotspots included phenotypic identification, relationships with other forms of cell death, mechanistic investigation, and cancer-related research.
Interpretation:
Paraptosis research has evolved from phenotypic identification to mechanistic elucidation and potential applications, particularly in cancer research.
Limitations:
Only English-language articles and reviews were included.
The analysis is limited to publications available in the selected databases.
Conclusion:
Paraptosis research is developing and may represent important future frontiers in cancer research and its connection with the tumor microenvironment.
