Acute acalculous cholecystitis in children due to EBV and cytomegalovirus infection: a rare case report and review of the literature
To report a case of acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC) in a child associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) coinfection during infectious mononucleosis.
Approach:
Key Findings:
The patient had EBV and CMV coinfection, leading to AAC during infectious mononucleosis.
Clinical presentation included fever, abdominal pain, lymphadenopathy, and elevated liver enzymes.
Conservative management was effective, avoiding unnecessary surgical intervention.
Interpretation:
Limitations:
The rarity of AAC in children may limit generalizability of findings.
Further studies are needed to understand the mechanisms of EBV and CMV coinfection in AAC.
