Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and recommended low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein B targets – a SwissDiab study
To evaluate lipid management in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) according to current guidelines and assess agreement in target attainment across three recommended lipid biomarkers.
Key Findings:
Median age of participants was 43.6 years with a diabetes duration of 16 years.
Only 33.6% of patients were prescribed lipid-lowering therapy.
LDL-C target attainment was 11.6%, while non-HDL-C and apoB targets were reached by 30.6% and 59.7% of patients, respectively.
11.1% of patients reached all three lipid targets, and 39.8% reached none.
Interpretation:
The study reports on the attainment of lipid management targets in T1DM patients and the discordance in target attainment across different lipid biomarkers.
Limitations:
The study is observational and may not establish causation.
Findings are based on a specific population and may not be generalizable.
Conclusion:
The study presents findings on lipid management in T1DM patients, highlighting the discordance in lipid target attainment.
