A recent study in JAMA Pediatrics revealed that US children aged 6 to 17 with both chronic health and health-related social needs are significantly more likely to miss at least 11 school days due to illness or injury. Analyzing data from 66,752 children, the study found that this group had a 9.4% probability of elevated absenteeism. Specific conditions like depression and chronic pain showed even higher associations. The research calls for pediatric clinicians to incorporate school attendance monitoring during health visits to improve child well-being.
