Objective:

To evaluate the efficacy of osimertinib in a patient with unresectable mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC).

Approach:
  • Patient Case: A 72-year-old man with unresectable low-grade MEC was treated with osimertinib at 80 mg once daily after surgery was deemed too morbid.
  • Treatment Outcome: The patient achieved a 33% reduction in tumor size, meeting RECIST 1.1 criteria for partial response, and experienced improved symptoms with grade 1 toxicity.
Key Findings:
  • Osimertinib led to a 33% reduction in tumor size and improved symptoms.
  • The patient maintained disease control for approximately 7.5 months before non-target progression.
Limitations:
  • The study is based on a single case report, limiting generalizability.
  • Comprehensive genomic profiling did not assess gene fusions.
