Objective:

To examine the impact of a nirsevimab recall-based immunization strategy on the incidence of clinically diagnosed all-cause bronchiolitis in infants during the 2024-2025 RSV season.

Key Findings:
  • Nirsevimab effectiveness was 48% (95% CI, 29%-62%) in the as-treated analysis.
  • In the per-protocol analysis, nirsevimab effectiveness was 45% (95% CI, 23%-61%).
  • Effectiveness decreased with age: 77% for 2-3 months, 45% for 4-6 months, and 29% for >6 months.
Interpretation:

Nirsevimab was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of clinically diagnosed all-cause bronchiolitis, particularly in younger infants.

Limitations:
  • Small sample size.
  • Potential for residual regional confounding.
Conclusion:

The study supports the effectiveness of recall-based nirsevimab immunization strategies in community pediatric practice, especially for older, previously unexposed infants.
