To characterize dispensing trends and costs for the new respiratory-use medications incorporated into Colombia’s Resolution 2292 of 2021.
Approach:
Study Design: A longitudinal observational study assessed trends in the utilization and costs of respiratory-management medications among outpatients recorded in a population drug-dispensary database.
Population: The study included approximately 9.2 million individuals affiliated with the Colombian Health System, representing 30% of the contributory regime and 6% of the state-subsidized regime.
Data Collection: Medication dispensing data were obtained from Audifarma SA, covering the period from January 1, 2021, to June 30, 2023.
Key Findings:
Utilization and associated costs of respiratory medications rose significantly following the 2022 Benefit Plan update.
Gaps involving recommended first-line therapies were filled, indicating changes in prescribing and dispensing practices.
