Objective:

To assess the efficacy and safety of GPOEM for refractory delayed gastric conduit emptying (DGCE) after esophagectomy and examine potential predictors of clinical response.

Approach:
  • Design and setting: Prospective investigation conducted at two academic medical centers in the Netherlands from March 2021 through December 2024.
  • Participants: Adults with refractory DGCE symptoms beginning more than 3 months after esophagectomy were eligible if at least one objective finding supported DGCE. Patients with alternative causes, prior pyloric surgery or GPOEM, or uncontrolled coagulopathy were excluded.
  • Intervention and assessment: Experienced interventional endoscopists performed GPOEM. Follow-up included endoscopy, EndoFLIP, gastric emptying scintigraphy, and patient-reported symptom and quality-of-life assessments at specified time points.
Interpretation:

The supplied context describes the study rationale and methods but does not provide treatment outcomes, predictor results, or safety findings.

Limitations:
  • The provided article context ends during the description of patient-reported outcome measures and contains no results or discussion.
  • No sample size or outcome estimates are provided in the supplied context.
