Objective:

To explore the association between age at menopause and cardiovascular disease and mortality, and to identify potential mediators of this association.

Approach:
    Key Findings:
    • Women with menopause before 40 years had higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease and increased mortality risks compared to those with menopause at 50-51 years.
    • Each one-year decrease in age at menopause was associated with 3% increase in cardiovascular disease prevalence, 3% increase in all-cause mortality, and 4% increase in cardiovascular mortality.
    • Total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, hypertension, and glycated hemoglobin partially mediated the association between age at menopause and adverse outcomes.
