A study at Bicêtre Hospital found that an AI-based tool significantly improved the accuracy and reproducibility of mitotic scores among junior pathologists assessing breast carcinoma whole-slide images. The tool, which detects mitoses and identifies hotspots, was compared against expert consensus scores, with accuracy rising from 62% to 76% for one investigator and from 64% to 78% for another. The findings indicate that AI can enhance consistency in mitotic scoring, particularly in challenging cases, although the study's limitations necessitate cautious interpretation of results.
