Myopia Pathways May Guide Control

Share

Myopia progression is influenced by a combination of genetic susceptibility, environmental factors, and optical signals that disrupt normal eye growth. Victor Opoku-Yamoah, PhD, from the University of Waterloo, and his team conducted an extensive review synthesizing data from animal models and human studies. Findings indicate that increased near work and reduced outdoor time can exacerbate myopia, while certain interventions, like orthokeratology and increased outdoor exposure, show promise in mitigating progression. The review advocates for tailored management strategies considering individual genetic and environmental factors.
