This retrospective cohort study analyzed deidentified electronic health records for 47,894,786 US adults eligible for obesity management medications from December 22, 2025, through March 15, 2026.

  • 2

During the study period, 148,792 adults initiated oral semaglutide; 87.6% received Wegovy and 12.4% received Rybelsus.

  • 3

Weekly oral semaglutide initiation rose to 4.56 per 10,000 eligible adults in week 10 and neared injectable semaglutide uptake, while tirzepatide remained highest.

  • 4

More than half of oral semaglutide initiators had no previous GLP-1 receptor agonist use, indicating uptake among both new users and people previously treated with these drugs.

  • 5

Oral semaglutide initiators were generally older and more often female, had lower baseline BMI, and more often had Medicare coverage than injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide initiators.
