Gillaspie is board-certified in general and thoracic surgery and most recently led thoracic surgery at Creighton University Medical Center.

Her research focuses on combining new treatments with surgery and expanding access to clinical trials for patients with lung cancer.

Gillaspie chairs the ECOG-ACRIN Thoracic Surgery Subcommittee and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Task Force on Resident and Trainee Development.
