Men with sisters diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have a significantly increased risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension.

  • 2

The study followed over 1 million Swedish men from age 5 to assess cardiometabolic risks associated with having a sister with PCOS.

  • 3

Adjusted hazard ratios indicated that men with a sister with PCOS had a 2.02 times higher risk of obesity and a 1.62 times higher risk of type 2 diabetes.

  • 4

In a subcohort of young men, those with a sister with PCOS were more likely to be overweight or obese but did not show elevated blood pressure.

  • 5

The findings suggest that early screening and prevention strategies may benefit men with sisters diagnosed with PCOS.
