A machine-learning analysis of conversations can identify cognitive impairment with moderate accuracy, achieving an AUROC of over 0.73.

  • 2

The study involved 966 patients aged 55 and older, with cognitive impairment defined by a MoCA score at least 1 standard deviation below norms.

  • 3

The best-performing model achieved a positive predictive value of 30%, sensitivity of 68%, and specificity of 64% in the validation cohort.

  • 4

Greater variability in pause duration and increased energy in unvoiced speech were linked to higher likelihoods of cognitive impairment classification.

  • 5

The study's limitations include potential biases and the use of MoCA for defining cognitive impairment rather than comprehensive assessments.
