Researchers analyzed 48,118 primary care visits involving children aged 1 year or older with asthma.

  • 2

Household tobacco and e-cigarette use was reported in 5% of visits, tobacco-only use in 9%, and e-cigarette-only use in 3%.

  • 3

Combined household tobacco and e-cigarette use had the strongest association with poor asthma control, including nighttime symptoms, rescue-medication use, hospital admissions, and uncontrolled asthma

  • 4

E-cigarette-only household exposure was associated with approximately 1.3-fold higher odds of asthma flares and 1.4-fold higher odds of activity-related symptoms.

  • 5

Associations remained consistent after adjustment, and the authors called for family cessation counseling addressing both combustible tobacco and e-cigarettes.
